"No Charlie! No Charlie! Nooooo!"

It was early Saturday morning. Thirteen-year-old Peggy Nelson hoped she was dreaming. Then she heard the scurrying1 of feet and knew something was wrong. In a flash2, she whipped3 back the bedcovers4 and raced down the hallway5. Her heart sank6 as she stared7 at Chalie's empty8 cage9. The cage door was open, the way she had left it the night before.

"Peggy, I'm so sorry. Before we knew it,Charlie was gone like the wind,"said her mother."And your brother feels just awful10.

"Brad hates Charlie."

"Still,"her mother continued11, "he didn't mean to leave the kitchen door open."

Peggy swung12 around. "I knew it! He wanted Charlie to fly away!" With that she stamped13 back to her bedroom door,and then added14, "I'm never talking to Brad again!"
